<description>The residence at Northwest Peach Farm, located in East Hampton New York, is designed as a summer family retreat. Situated within an existing oak forest and a former peach farm the site is divided into two zones; an exterior garden and an interior garden. Upon entering the site, an allee of peach trees demarcates the exterior garden from neighboring property. The extended nature of the allee functions to connect the two, otherwise disparate, parts of the property. Pulling the strong horizontal geometry from the house the interior garden is designed with massings of mixed meadow grasses, little bluestem, and an expansive lawn. The boldness of the residence is emphasized by the decidedly minimalist nature of the landscape design.

<description>ART DIRECTION AND SET DESIGN /
LINCOLN CENTER / 15 FEB 2011

In order to create a fully immersive experience for the Frank Tell Fall Winter 2011 Collection Presentation careful orchestration was made with regard to lighting, scent, music, sound, video media, and runway position and surface texture. To achieve this, one ton of white rock salt was used to create a walking surface that would conceptually link the live runway show to the preceding film.

The sequence of the snow back-dropped video that transitions to the models walking before the audience in concert with a woody/burnt scent was an effort to transport the audience into a realm where they could participate in the realm of the designer and his muse.

The room in which the show was held is quite intimate, in order to turn the spatial constraints into an asset an effort was made to reinforce the ostensibly tribal nature of the collection by holding the audience in a tightly packed circular configuration.

<description>SET DESIGN AND LIGHT INSTALLATION /
MILK STUDIOS / 12 FEB 2010

Drawing inspiration from this seasons knits, a row of interwoven fluorescent lights was used to create a simple backdrop for the Frank Tell Fall 2010 Collection Presentation. The intent was to connect the audience to the runway through the spectacle of vibrant light, and to create a glowing field of electric fog when captured on film. In tandem with the designers vision for a monochromatic and uniform collection, the lights served as an appropriate complement to the sleek and sophisticated silhouette of this season.

<description>Located on the shores of Silver Lake this residence posed interesting topographic challenges. Sited on the summit of a thirty percent slope, the client desired an informal connection to the lake while maximizing views and creating adequate privacy from the adjacent neighbors. A rich plant palette created two distinct vegetative precincts; shade tolerant ground covers and meadow grasses. A secluded and densely planted entry experience transitions to an open and steeply sloped meadow that preserves the existing birch trees. The final result creates a contrasting experience between compression of space uphill and expansion as one moves downhill. The commanding views toward the lake are exemplified by the massings of meadow plantings relative to the height of the existing birch trees as views from the home are cast over the tree canopy.

		<description>STATUS: IN CONSTRUCTION

This 45,000 square foot plaza sits at the base of a new residential tower and medical complex currently in construction. The plaza has two functions; being an attractive autocourt and an extension of the street scape.
The autocourt features a sculptural bronze screen wall that is as tall as 11-feet in certain locations. Abstracting the sinuous lines of Central Park the interplay between the sculptural wall, vegetation, and plaza space creates uniquely enticing visual experience to this otherwise shady parcel of land.

<description>On the cliffs of the Hudson River this Victorian farm house is an exercise in landscape renovation and the contemporary use of the vernacular cottage garden. With dramatic views of the river and over 20-feet of grade change the site is divided into several tiers and spaces each providing their own scale and experience.

<description>The courtyard spaces have been designed with the needs of the residence in mind, ensuring the maximum usability and opportunity for dynamacy within each space. The courtyards spaces have also been designed to be scalable to suit the needs of the forthcoming engineering work and budget constraints. With that in mind, this design utilizes the proposed concrete grid of pavement proposed by the engineers and their design or the roofing system. Also, the overall design of the courtyard is crafted to create visual interest when looked down upon from the residences above. Selected plants have been chosen for their fast growth, drought tolerance and hardiness in urban conditions.
Ground cover and shrub plantings have been selected to augment the theme in each area. In the south courtyard, lush ground cover is used to create a sense of calm and enclosure while paired with a shrub later what will provide screening of first floor residences and deter foot traffic at the building face. In the north courtyard sun loving ground cover is used to exhibit the bright and open nature of this space while punctuated with a shrub layer that creates visual and floral interest. This layer also provides screening to the first floor residences and deters foot traffic toward the building face.
At the east and west of the courtyards are wooden benches which span the edges between the habitable space and the planted zones at the building face. These are used to maximize the seatingarea and act as a barrier to prevent foot traffic into the planted zones at the building face. In both the north and south courtyard are tables with chairs and umbrellas. These items are movable within the space tomaximize use potential. There are also solitary chairs located in each space which residents can move around the courtyard as they please.

<description>Working in collaboration with Bates-Masi Architects, the Montauk Residence is designed as a summer family retreat. Situated within an existing forest of oak trees the site is divided into three zones. Upon entering the site a row of Amelanchier demarcates the front lawn from the forest edge. Pulling the strong horizontal geometry from the house the boldness of the Amelanchier row is reflected with the bluestone patio and pavement and the free standing seat wall. A grove of witchhazel is planted behind the seat wall to create a dramatic springtime backdrop as well as to screen the neighbors. Using a variety of plant species in each plant bed, seasonal interest is exemplified as ornamental foliage transitions throughout the spring, summer and fall seasons.
Project Involvement: Precedent, materials, and vegetation research. Schematic Design. Design development. Construction documentation. Construction administration. Project renderings.

<description>The master plan for a new equestrian community is located in the hamlet of Amenia, within New York’s picturesque Hudson Valley. The site is a 480 acre area of rolling pasture and remnant forest mottled with the existing infrastructure of an equestrian farm, including barns, riding corrals and trails. Taking cues from the existing infrastructure and topography, the active community and equestrian spaces are focused around an existing ring road with development clustered against existing hedgerows at the paddock edges. The goal of the layout is to visually combine the home site with the corral, blurring the line between pasture and traditional yard.
Project Involvement: Schematic design at all scales of the project. Grading studies and earthwork analysis for various alternatives. Extensive physical and 3D modeling to simulate design alternatives and to illustrate design outcomes to the client and community board. Project coordination for the Environmental Impact Study in participation with civil engineer. Project coordination with client. Project renderings.

<description>L’Hotel d’Assoufid is a new luxury resort located in Marrakech, Morocco. Working in collaboration with U+B Architects the Assoufid resort is structured around modern garden oases that take advantage of optimal views to the Atlas Mountains, and contrast with the adjacent olive grove and raw desert landscape. The design concept reinterprets traditional Moroccan and Islamic design elements through a restrained and sophisticated use of repetition, proportion, color and texture, while retaining the compelling rhythms and mystery of the region. The master plan also addresses the unique environmental and economic conditions of Marrakech by employing indigenous materials, sustainable practices and utilizing local artisans.
Project Involvement: Extensive cultural and architectural precedent and historic research. Native vegetation research. Schematic Design. Project renderings.
