MONTAUK RESIDENCE
Working in collaboration with Bates-Masi Architects, the Montauk Residence is designed as a summer family retreat. Situated within an existing forest of oak trees the site is divided into three zones. Upon entering the site a row of Amelanchier demarcates the front lawn from the forest edge. Pulling the strong horizontal geometry from the house the boldness of the Amelanchier row is reflected with the bluestone patio and pavement and the free standing seat wall. A grove of witchhazel is planted behind the seat wall to create a dramatic springtime backdrop as well as to screen the neighbors. Using a variety of plant species in each plant bed, seasonal interest is exemplified as ornamental foliage transitions throughout the spring, summer and fall seasons.
