SHOREWOOD RESIDENCE
Located on the shores of Silver Lake this residence posed interesting topographic challenges. Sited on the summit of a thirty percent slope, the client desired an informal connection to the lake while maximizing views and creating adequate privacy from the adjacent neighbors. A rich plant palette created two distinct vegetative precincts; shade tolerant ground covers and meadow grasses. A secluded and densely planted entry experience transitions to an open and steeply sloped meadow that preserves the existing birch trees. The final result creates a contrasting experience between compression of space uphill and expansion as one moves downhill. The commanding views toward the lake are exemplified by the massings of meadow plantings relative to the height of the existing birch trees as views from the home are cast over the tree canopy.
